Alloy Wheel Coating Process

The most visible automotive powder coating application is alloy wheels. A typical production line includes:

  1. Pretreatment: 7-stage chemical wash with chrome-free conversion coating
  2. Primer coat: Epoxy or epoxy-polyester powder (60-80μm)
  3. Cure: 180°C for 15-20 minutes
  4. Basecoat/color: Polyester powder (40-60μm)
  5. Cure: 180°C for 15-20 minutes
  6. Clearcoat: Acrylic clear powder or liquid clear (30-50μm)
  7. Final cure: 160-180°C
  8. Inspection: Film thickness, gloss, color match, defect check
